8x8 Review

8x8 is a Solid Provider with Over 10 Years of Experience and the Best Quality Equipment

8x8, formerly known as Packet8, is one of the oldest providers in the VoIP field, with over 10 years of experience, and is a publicly held company. As such, they have the excellent reliability, and specialize in small business services. 8x8 offers either a monthly $24.99 unlimited plan or a $199.00 annual unlimited plan. Both of these plans come with a $24.99 discount, plus a very high quality free phone system. If you don't want to commit to a year, 8x8's $24.99 per month unlimited plan is not a bad one, but is a bit more expensive than some. Their annual plan is a good deal, and though other providers are cheaper, after the $24.99 discount, it comes out to a total of only $171.01/yr ($14.25/mo).

For frequent international callers, 8x8 offers a one-of-a-kind value unlimited calling plan that includes calls to 40 different countries for only $5 more per month. They also include a free high-quality phone system with all packages. 8x8 offers better phones and devices than any other provider, including video phones, all with excellent sound quality and few customer complaints. Overall, 8x8 is a very solid, reliable provider and a particularly good choice for small businesses or those who are willing to pay a little more for top-of-the-line quality.

I switched to Packet 8 when Sun Rocket went bankrupt. My biggest complaint is that it takes 3 or 4 tries to have a call connect. When I called customer service to compain, they had no explanation. I found out yesterday that their pricing is going up to $239 for a year contract. I'm switching next month.

Used the service for almost 2 years. The 'box' stopped working, could not dial out or accept incoming calls. Worked with tech support for about a week then they stopped responding. I called to address, they indicated they would contact to send a new box. Waited an additional 10 days and no contact. So, I got used to using my cell phone and called to cancel. They tried to give me $20 credit to continue, I still wanted to cancel. They then informed me that they would not refund the remaining $35 left on my yearly subscription. I canceled anyway.

After Sun Rocket crashed i kinda got stuck with Packet 8. Their web site and customer service is really poor. I've never gotten some of the features to work. I had a problem with the bank (stolen CC) and they turned off my phone over a missed payment of $3.45! AND the service is getting worse. Now many (more than half) are just one way. Where the other party can not hear me AT ALL! I'll be changing providers very soon. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

I've been with Packet8 for four years. At first the sound quality was not much to wright about but later on it improved some. The last three months were very did it for me. The line will drop just like a bad cellphone connection. Three months of dealing with them about the problem with not much help. I had to disconnect the service after the first week of February. I asked for a refund only for the month of February, they just refused to refund anything. The price was good until things went wrong.

I've used Packet 8 for nearly 2 years now and have had a few service interruptions. But now the service is down as well as the website. After calling customer service and following their voice mail prompts, I receive a message saying all lines are busy and get cut off. Their investor relations website is still working though... Their sound quality has been just okay and now it's time to find a new provider

All I can say is that I love packet8-I have made calls to Los Angeles to Tanzania with no problems at all. I Dumped Verizon as my home phone service when I had technical problems, and they refused to fix it. Now, It's a no-fuss deal. pick up the phone, call, and that's it. And, you actually get a real human to talk to you if you call them...That there is plenty effort to keep my business.

I have used Packet8 for over 2 years now. We have the Video phone plan and my son also has this. He lives 7 hours away so I cannot see my grandchildren without this video phone. It is absolutely wonderful. My son's only phone is Packet8 and has worked out well. My boss also has Packet8 and has had it for 2 years. He has disconnected his incoming line and only uses Packet8 and this has saved him a lot of money. The video phone sometimes get disconnected and we do not know what cause this but it may be my cable service and not the phone. But it may be Packet8 as well. That is why I am not giving a 5 for reliability.

I had Vonage for 1 year and loved their service. I might have had to reset the converter 2 or 3 times in the year I had them. I moved and decided to try Packet 8. The voice quality was fine but is seamed like I have to reset the phone system every other week. I had to keep them for a year due to the contract. I wanted to keep my number and if I put in for a number transfer it would have exceeded the trial period. So I dealt with having to reset the phones quite often. The Packet 8 web interface it terrible. Vonage has a much more user friendly webpage. I decided I was not going to go back to Vonage yet. I changed over to a company called VoiceEclipse. There was not a year contract with them. When I set up the converter box they sent me The cordless phones did not ring. Only my 1 corded phone rang in the house. When I would place a call or receive a call the voice was very choppy on both side of the call. I called technical support and they said the needed to boost the signal and proceeded to do so. The phone now rang a little better but the voice was just a choppy. I also now would hear in the background while on the phone a few small beeps every 30 seconds or so. It was not the call waiting. With this I decided to try another company. I am currently using VoicePulse and have been doing so for the last month and a half with no problems. Sound quality is excellent, caller ID displays the name & phone number of the caller along with all of the usual features.

I'm another orphan from SunRocket that was adopted by Packet8. I liked SunRocket and have found Packet8 to be an even better experience. The dropped calls and muddy sound quality that I thought were just part of the VOIP experience have not occurred with Packet8. As someone mentioned before- it's just about as reliable as the old at&t landline at a price that's unbeatable.

8x8 Review:

Packet8 was the lower cost solution to our needs. Phone systems for traditional phones lines are expensive, but the Packet8 VOIP service is scaleable as we grow with no technicians required to set up. Great example was when I moved my company to a new office -- all we did was set up the DSL on our computer network and the phones worked immediately. Also great for remote employees working from home who are just another extension in your office no matter where they are geographically -- and you can have them billed directly for their extensions.
